Peyton Conway March (b. Dec. 27, 1864, Easton, Pennsylvania-d. April 13, 1955, Washington, D.C.), General, U. S. Army, graduated from West Point in 1888. He served in the Philippines, commanded the 8th Field Artillery on the Mexican border, and was placed in command of the 1st Field Artillery Brigade, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, World War I (1917). He was Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army (1918-1921), accomplishing centralized control over supply, the creation of an Air Service, Tank Corps, and Chemical Warfare Service. He retired in November 1921.
