Abeel, James, 1733-1825
Variant namesJames Abeel (1733-1825) was born and raised in New York City where he pursued a commercial career as a young man. During the American Revolution, he served in the First Battalion of the New York City Militia, the Continental Army, and by 1777, as deputy quartermaster general at Morristown, New Jersey. After the war, Abeel and his wife, Gertrude, secured profits from Revolutionary War certificates and acquired land in Washington County, New York.
