The Supreme Judicial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts succeeded the Superior Court of Judicature established for the Province of the Massachusetts Bay, implicitly by Const Pt 2, C 3, Art 2 and explicitly by St 1780, c 17; see also St 1782, c 9.
