Richard Porter Phillips was an American geophysicist born March 15, 1928 in Spokane, Washington. B.S., mining engineering, Stanford, 1949; M.S. Stanford, 1951; Ph. D., earth sciences, SIO, UCSD, 1964. Executive Director, San Diego Museum of Natural History, 1966-1969. Served on faculty of San Diego State University, 1969-1972, and University of San Diego, 1973-1991. Died March 22, 1991.
