A member of many Washington, D.C., clubs, ranging from the Daughters of the American Revolution to the Consumers' League, Wiley spent five days in jail for picketing the White House in 1917 for women's suffrage. She was chairman of the National Woman's Party (1930-1932 and 1940-1942), editor of its Equal Rights (1940-1945), and a lobbyist on behalf of many of the organizations with which she was involved.
