George Washington Brimhall was born on November 14, 1814, near Canada Creek, New York. In 1837 the Brimhalls moved to Illinois, where George joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1842. In 1845 he married Lucretia Metcalf, who was opposed to the Mormon Church and divorced Brimhall when he went to Salt Lake City in 1850. He was part of the Iron Mission and in 1852 was elected to the Utah Territorial Legislature. He also served on the St. George Mission beginning in 1864. Brimhall died in Spanish Fork, Utah, on September 30, 1895.
