The Internet-First University Press was the outcome of a project, "Creating an Open Access Paradigm for Scholarly Publishing," led by J. Robert Cooke and Kenneth M. King and funded by the Atlantic Philanthropies. The project created online and DVD versions of interviews, lectures, and symposia.

James Robert "Bob" Cooke served as vice president (1959-1960) and president (1960-1961) of Student Government at NC State College. He was active in numerous campus organizations such as Alpha Zeta, the College Union, and the Rules Committee. He graduated from NC State in 1961. In 1966 he began teaching at Cornell University. From 1998-2003 Cooke served as the Dean of the Cornell University Faculty.
