After the war, Haynes opened the Saddle Club Inc., later known as the Saddle and Fox Restaurant, in Durham. He was a certified executive chef and president of Whitt-Haynes Construction, later the Charles C. Haynes Jr. Construction Company. He died in Durham in 1994.

Charles C. Haynes Jr. was born in Durham, N.C., on 5 December 1921. The Haynes family operated riding stables the Durham Livery Stables and Hillandale Stables in Durham, N.C. He attended Duke University, where he was a riding instructor and a member of the football team, playing in the historic 1942 Rose Bowl held in Durham. Haynes left Duke to serve in 88th Infantry Division of the United States Army during World War II. As a lieutenant, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his service in North Africa and Italy. After the war, he opened the Saddle Club Inc., later known as the Saddle and Fox Restaurant, in Durham. He was a certified executive chef and president of the Whitt-Haynes Construction, later the Charles C. Haynes Jr. Construction Company. He married Jane Barry in the 1950s. They had three children: Charles C. Haynes III, a religious studies professor; John Barry Haynes, a professor and sports coach; and Wendy Jackson Haynes Conner, a university drama instructor. Haynes married twice more and spent his final years with companion Patsy Z. Ashby. He died in Durham on 20 January 1994.
