Burnet R. Maybank was elected to the United States Senate in 1941 to fill the seat that had been vacated by James F. Byrnes. He had previously been a Charleston City Councilman, Mayor of Charleston, and Governor of South Carolina. Maybank was a graduate of the College of Charleston. This collection reflects Maybank's Senate service on the Committee of Banking and Currency; Committee of Appropriations; and the Sub-Committee for Military Appropriations.
