Born June 6, 1756, in Norwich, Connecticut. He joined the army at the beginning of the Revolution and served until the close of the War of 1812 when he settled in Franklin, Connecticut. He died there July 1, 1837. He married Sally P. Ellis about 1800. Two of their sons were also army officers. MMQ (blue index cards)

A Revolutionary War solder from Connecticut who continued in the Army. He was lieutenant in the 1st Infantry Regiment, 1789, and rose to the rank of colonel in 1808. He commanded Fort Mackinac in 1804; and in 1805 was sent to the mouth of the Missouri river to establish Fort Belle Fontaine. He was in Detroit in 1810 and 1811. In 1812 he was on sick leave in Connecticut, and after war was declared on duty in Newport, Rhode Island. He retired in 1815. (from Ind. Mag. of Hist., Dec. 1948, 409) (blue index cards)
