Mary Hitchcock Wilde, 1905-1984, graduated from the Vail-Dean School in Elizabeth, NJ, where she was enrolled in a college preparatory course. During that time many of her writings were published in the school's publication, The Budget. She studied at the New Jersey College for Women (now Douglas College) and received a Ph.D. in botany from Cornell University in 1942.
