Ballerina Marjorie Tallchief (b. Oct. 19, 1926, Denver, CO) grew up in Fairfax, OK and Los Angeles, CA and is a member of the Osage Nation. She trained under Bronislava Nijinska and David Lichine and was the first Native American to be "première danseuse étoile" of the Paris Opera Ballet. Following her stage career, she taught at the Dallas Ballet and was dance director at the Dallas Ballet, the Chicago Ballet School, and the Harid Conservatory. She was married to choreographer and director, George Skibine; together they had two children.
