Roger Andrew Caras was born in Methuen, MA in 1928. He was an animal rights activist and welfare advocate and served as president of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals from 1991 to 1999. He wrote over 100 books about animals, including a few for children. He died in 2001.
