Lewis Granger, lawyer and politician, was born in Ohio in 1819. In 1838 he graduated from Jefferson College, Pennsylvania; he then went to Missouri where he practiced law. In 1849, the Granger family moved to Los Angeles where Lewis continued to practice law. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Granger was appointed District Attorney. In 1857, the Grangers moved north to Oroville, California. Granger served in the California state legislature and was the Receiver of the U.S. Land Office. He died in May 1890.

Granger family lived in Oroville, Butte County, Calif. from 1857. Lewis C. Granger was attorney, land registrar, justice of the peace (1870-1890). A Democrat, he served in State Assembly (1883-1887). Granger family had agricultural lands and a gold mine in Oroville area.
