Charles Stewart (1775-1812) served as a soldier in India, 1794-1795, and obtained a company in the 109th Regiment. He was transferred to the 53rd Regiment, and served with it in the West Indies from 1796, being promoted to Major in 1800. He returned home in command of the 53rd in 1804, and was later made Lieutenant-Colonel. Stewart served in the Walcheren Expedition and Peninsular Campaign. He died at Coira, Portugal.
