A. V. Williams Jackson was born in New York City, on February 9, 1862. For the majority of his life, Jackson was associated with Columbia University. He received an A.B. there in 1883, an A.M. the following year, an L.H.D. the year after that, and in 1886, a Ph.D. Between 1895 and 1935, he was a professor of Indo-Iranian languages at Columbia. He was the author of many books and travelled extensively in the Near East and South Asia. A. V. Williams Jackson died on August 8, 1937.
