The George Cleeve Association, formed in 1982, was a society based in Portland, Me., and was dedicated to honoring the memory of George Cleeve and his descendants. Cleeve, celebrated as Portland's original founder, first came to Spurwink, Me., from England in 1630 and later relocated to Portland in 1633. Cleeve married Joan Price in 1618 and had one daughter, Elizabeth, born 1619. Elizabeth married Michael Mitton in 1637 beginning the extensive Cleeve/Price/ Mitton lineage. The George Cleeve Association was led by Alice Mitchell Branson until her death in 2010.
