Daniel Victor Meekins was born 19 July 1897, on Roanoke Island, Dare County, N.C. He was the author of The Old Sea Captain and the Drummer, the founder and publisher of The Coastland Times newspaper, and served as postmaster in Manteo, N.C. He died 8 January 1964 in Norfolk, Va.
