Anderson family, a prominent Catholic family of Ohio and Kentucky, descendants of Richard Clough Anderson (1750-1826), a Revolutionary soldier and surveyor general of Western Virginia.

Larz Anderson (1803-1878), Director of the Citizens' National Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio, known for involvement in various charities.

Robert Anderson (1805-1871), Union officer, in command of the defense of Fort Sumter in 1861.

Charles Anderson (1814-1895), lawyer, Civil War soldier, Governor of Ohio in 1865 - 1866.

William Marshall Anderson (1807-1881), lawyer, archeologist, and adventurer. In 1834, in order to regain his health, he joined the William L. Sublett fur-trading party on a trip to the Far West. In 1865-1866, Anderson undertook an attempt to establish a Confederate colony in Mexico. Having escaped from Mexico, he returned to Ohio where he lived until his death in 1881.

Thomas McArthur Anderson (1836-1917), son of W. Marshall Anderson and Eliza McArthur. After the war he stayed in the Army and rose to the rank of Brigadier General in the Spanish-American War. Robert Marshall Anderson, son of W. Marshall Anderson and Ellen Columba Ryan Anderson, was a civil engineer, a professor at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., and vice-president of a New York engineering firm.
