Walters Flowers came to Spokane in 1902. He attended Whitworth College and later taught botany there. He was an honorary curator at the Eastern Washington State Historical Society several years before his death in 1952.

Walter E. Flowers was born in Nebraska, came to Spokane in 1902 and held a long term position as a Botany professor at Whitworth College. He was also an honorary curator for the Grace Campbell Memorial Museum (predecessor to E.W.S.H.S.) and donated collections of butterflies, insects, photographs of mushrooms and related plants.
