Tennessee Public Service Commission

The Public Service Commission was created in 1883 by Governor William B. Bate to regulate railroads operating in Tennessee and was known as the Board of Railroad Assessors. In 1897 the name was changed to the Tennessee Railroad and Public Utilities Commission. In 1956 it became known as the Public Service Commission until 1996 when it was renamed the Tennessee Regulatory Authority.
