Huske, Ellis, 1700-1755

Journalist and colonial office-holder.

Born in England, Huske later resided in Portsmouth, N.H., and in Boston, where he was appointed postmaster in 1734. He served as a New Hampshire councillor (1733-1755) and chief justice (1749-1754), and until 1753 as deputy postmaster-general of the colonies. Huske published the "Boston Weekly Postboy (1734-1755) and is reputed to have written "The Present State of North America" (1755)
