Biographical note: Engineer and administrator; Jane Rider moved to Tucson with her parents in 1906. She was the first woman civil engineer to graduate in Arizona in 1911; she worked for Arizona State Laboratories as a bacteriologist and later as director, and served with the American Red Cross in Europe during World War I. In 1935, she moved to Phoenix as administrator of the National Youth Administration, and coordinator of Arizona's women's projects for the Works Progress Administration (WPA). From 1948 to 1961, she worked as State Director of Hospital Surveys and Construction.
