Westmacott, Richard, Sir
Variant namesSculptor Sir Richard Westmacott was born in London, and studied sculpture with his father, Richard; he later studied in Rome with Canova. After returning to London he built a large practice and became very popular, generally working in a neo-classical style. He was professor of sculpture at the Royal Academy for many years, and also wrote on the subject.
