Alfred H. Caine, son of Utah Territorial Delegate John Thomas Caine and Margaret Nightingale, was born 19 December 1860 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Margaret Ann Mitchell, also of Salt Lake City, on 16 March 1882. Together they had two children before Caine died in 1890. Although it is unclear when Margaret became involved in Utah's silk industry, in 1894 she served as treasurer of the Utah Women's Silk Association.

A collection of correspondence and memorabilia from the Alfred H. Caine family. Alfred was the son of Utah Congressional delegate John T. Caine. He was employed by the House Coal Company and worked both in Coalville and Salt Lake City, Utah. He died in 1890 at the age of 30.
