Biography

Samuel John Sackett was born on January 23, 1928 in Redlands, California. After receiving his B.A. (1948) and M.A. (1949) from the University of Redlands, he pursued graduate study at Stanford University (1950) and received his Ph.D, from UCLA (1956). He served as an instructor in English and journalism at Hastings College (1949-51); and assistant professor (1954-57), associate professor (1957-65), professor (1965-77), and professor emeritus (1977) of English at Fort Hays State University. In 1978 he became dean of Salt City Business College. Throughout his career he contributed articles and poems to folklore and literary journals. His published works include Kansas Folklore (1961), Cowboys and the Songs They Sang (1967), and Edgar Watson Howe (1972).
