James E. Moore was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA), West Point in the Class of 1924. During WWII, he was Chief of Staff (CofS) of the Ninth (9th) Army, ETO. After the war, he was the Army Commander, Okinawa, and High Commissioner of the Ryukyu Islands. He also served as CofS of SHAPE from 1959-1963.

James Edward Moore (b. Nov. 29, 1902, Bedford, Mass.-d. Jan. 28, 1986), U.S. Army officer, graduated from West Point in 1924 and began his military career with assignments in the Philippines and in China. During World War II, he was chief of staff, 35th Infantry Division, 30th Division, XII Corps, 4th Army, 9th Army, and 2nd Army. Following the War he served as secretary of the Army General Staff; commanding general, 10th Division; commandant of the Army War College; and chief of staff of Supreme HQ Allied Powers Europe. General Moore retired in 1963.
