The author of several novels, including The Chronic Loafer and A Drone and a Dreamer, Nelson M. Lloyd was born in1873 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and worked as a writer for the New York Evening Sun from 1892 to 1909. Lloyd graduated from the Pennsylvania State College in 1892 with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. While at Penn State, he was the editor of The Free Lance, the student-run newspaper. At the New York Evening Sun, Lloyd covered the Portsmouth Peace Conference after the Russo-Japanese War, and accompanied William Jennings Bryan on several trips regarding the conference. Lloyd died in 1933 at the age of 60.
