Marney, Carlyle, 1916-1978
Variant namesBaptist minister and writer. He attended Carson-Newman College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. After seminary Marney served churches in Kentucky, Texas and North Carolina. In 1967 Marney founded in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina Interpreter's House, a retreat center for ministers and laypersons. Marney wrote over a dozen books all of which challenged the reader to live out the demands of the gospel in spite of traditional expectations. He died in 1978.
