Physicist (optics, cryogenics). Lecturer in Zürich (till 1920); 1921-1947, professor at the Warsaw Technical University. Established (in 1920) the possibility of holographic images of atomic crystal structures; 1929, with Keesom, discovered the allotropic forms of liquid helium.
