Description
Thanks Martha for her kind and sisterly letter, which has helped alleviate some of Jennie's sadness. She remarks that a bride of only five months being sad seems out of order but that she has good reasons, one of which she says will be described in the newspaper article she includes, the other of which is most of her wardrobe being burnt up in the destruction of two trunks. She is experiencing her first Southern summer and the accompanying illnesses; recently a “belle of the state” died of typhoid in Pine Bluffs. She would love to visit Virginia for the summer as Martha invites but Mr. Hutchinson will not leave the state right now and she would rather wait to travel until the railroad is completed.
