Sherwood Forest July 9, 1849 My Dear Sir: Your letter reached me with the accepted draft on Friday, and I despoted Tazewell to day to Richmond with a letter to the President of the Farmers Bank, to obtain its discount. He carries my three checks for the moment which he will enclose in this so as to lose no time by availing of the direct communication from Richmond to New York. I would go myself and pur chase a Northern draft but for my inability from a smart attack of sickness to leave home. I hope that my checks will answer every purchase - the premium in New York but a little exceeds that on a draft, and I must submit to the loss - All else are well.
